UNGCNT Partners with NSM to nurture Thai Youth with “Sustainable Intelligence” mindset
The UN Global Compact Network Thailand (UNGCNT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Science Museum of Thailand (NSM) to jointly promote science, technology, and sustainable development among Thai youth over the next three years. This collaboration aims to equip young people with a “Sustainable Intelligence” (SI) mindset to drive sustainability in the 5.0 era and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
Today (August 21, 2024), UNGCNT and NSM formalized their partnership, outlining key objectives: to raise public awareness and understanding of science, technology, and sustainable development, facilitate exchange programs amongst science communicators and researchers, share knowledge and best practices, collaborate on science and technology research and activities, foster the growth of a scientific culture, and explore future avenues of cooperation.
Asst. Prof. Rawin Raviwongse, President of NSM, emphasized that the partnership aims to inspire and enrich Thai youth through engaging activities and exhibitions that make sustainability accessible and compelling. “We hope to spark creativity and encourage young people to apply their newfound knowledge to develop innovations that benefit society. This aligns with the vision of Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdee, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, who seeks to cultivate scientific thinking and skills that will drive national development and build a future generation of scientific leaders.”
Mr. Suphachai Chearavanont, Chairperson of UNGCNT and CEO of Charoen Pokphand Group (C.P. Group), highlighted the critical role of youth in building a “Sustainable Intelligence-based society,” where modern technology, including AI, is used ethically and sustainably for the benefit of the economy, society, and environment. “This MOU serves as a strategic roadmap to deepen knowledge, understanding, and readiness in science and technology, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. It also fosters a scientific mindset where people ask questions, seek answers, and collaborate to solve problems based on data and rationality, ensuring no one is left behind as the country undergoes economic transformation.”
We stand ready to support educational reform and nurture Thai youth to become heroes of sustainability, said Mr. Supachai.
In conjunction with this partnership, UNGCNT, along with 27 members and 8 UN agencies, is hosting the “THE GLOBE VENGERs #Heroes of Sustainability” exhibition at the National Science and Technology Fair 2024.
